Il nome deriva dal greco mwdwmweaνέος, mweqnèos, cioè mwegnuovo, recente, giovane, e dal genere affine mwewGea.

Le tre specie oggi note di questo genere sono state reperite in mwfgAsia sudorientale, mwfwAsia meridionale, mwgaNuova Guinea e mwgqCina: la specie dall'mwggareale più vasto è la mwgwN. nocticolor, rinvenuta in varie località della zona compresa fra l'mwhqIndia e mwhgSumatracite-ref-araneidae-1-0[1].

Per la determinazione delle caratteristiche di questo genere sono stati esaminati gli esemplari tipo di mwjqAraneus egregius mwjgKulczynski, 1911 in un lavoro di Levi del 1983cite-ref-araneidae-1-1[1].

Dal 1999 non sono stati esaminati esemplari di questo generecite-ref-araneidae-1-2[1].
